Qld: Fire crews prevent major disaster
BRISBANE, April 23 AAP - Quick action by firefighters last night prevented an oil fire
from becoming a $3-million disaster.
A Queensland Fire and Rescue Authority spokesman said officers were alerted to a fire
at an oil and fuel salvaging business at Eagle Farm, in Brisbane's northern suburbs, about
8.40pm (AEST).
The spokesman said oil from a storage tank being pumped through a moisture removal
process had leaked and ignited.
He said quick action by the first arriving fire crew had prevented a major fire and
saved an estimated $3 million.
A man in his 30s suffered superficial burns and was treated at the scene by ambulance officers.
Some processing equipment, a semi-trailer and a prime mover were damaged at an estimated
loss of $20,000.
The spokesman said no smoke alarm was in place.
The fire is being investigated.
